£750,000

Hemel Hempstead

This project relates to the emergency repair and reinstatement of firstly the ground floor and then the basement of a recently built Nursing Home for the Elderly that had suffered extensive damage to both basement and ground floor due to a severe flood.

Following storms and prolonged heavy rainfall a torrent of foul water surcharged the main sewer and subsequently an internal manhole in the basement

The Nursing Home is situated between three surrounding retaining walls and as a result of this the flood waters were trapped the basement this exacerbated the problem further as there was no natural escape and flowing away of the floodwater.

Phase 1 of the project involved a full strip out of the affected areas including, removal of suspended ceilings, removal of studwork partitions, removal of kitchen installations and  removal of all electrical and mechanical services following the pumping out of the flood water.

The next process was to install dehumidifying equipment to every room in the basement and to areas of the ground floor.

A full reinstatement, including, new partitioning, kitchen and bathroom installations and full decoration.
