Whiteford CBS were appointed to the refurbishment of detached barn in West Sussex, which had suffered extensive flood damage. As a result of prolonged heavy rainfall, saturating the ground resulting in localized flash flooding after Dykes in the surrounding fields were compromised.

The water ingress into the building reached up as far as 1m in areas. Prior to the works commencing Listed Building Consents had to be obtained, which involved liaison with the local Conservation Officer.

Stripping out works were undertaken initially to facilitate the drying out process. Strip-out works were carried out to the ground floor and staircase renewal. Once all contaminated areas were recovered   a full water damage assessment and investigation was undertaken. Drying and dehumidification flowed to each floor.

There then followed an extended period of drying out. During this time, Whiteford CBS liaised with the local authority Building Control team and prepared the reinstatement specification. After gaining listed building consent for the refurbishment work plus agreeing the scope and project value with the loss adjuster, Whiteford CBS appointed a specialist contractor to restore the house

Full reinstatement to the effected areas was undertaken. Decoration to both the internal and external finishes as well as the renewal of external joinery and rainwater goods. Kitchen and bathrooms were renewed, along with the replacement of internal partitions, dry-lining, ceilings, moulded cornices, joinery, finishing’s and decorations heating and electrical services.
